Business is the most boring business. Most people don’t have the time to get to know the business of something that they are already spending their time engaging in. That’s why business consulting is so exciting. The business is the same, but it’s for different purposes.
Business consulting is something you don’t do every day. You need to do it every day to stay relevant in your current niche. In this case, you need to change the way your business works. You need to change the way you handle your clients and you need to change the way you do your business. So you can’t just sit around waiting to be relevant.
Business consulting is an interesting area. Business consulting is still the same, nothing has changed, but it is a much different kind of consulting. It involves helping other business people to make changes in their own businesses. Consulting is a skill that you can learn and that you can develop, but that you have to develop in a specific area. Consulting is not for everyone.
My wife and I started a business consulting firm years ago. We charge a small fee for our services, but it’s our only income. Our clients are large multinational companies, and we use a combination of our expertise and those of others to help them solve problems and make changes in their own businesses. The whole idea is quite different than working for a marketing company where you get to know everyone’s clients and can do a little digging to learn about each person.
The problems I have with this job are really obvious. There are no real benefits to this job. You are paid a minimal salary for a few hours a day, but the work is not really interesting or fun. I feel that I am not learning much, and I am just being pushed around by others. In fact, these days I am actually starting to feel like I am being pushed around by my own colleagues.
The problem is that, as the name implies, the Better Business Bureau is a business organization that focuses on protecting the public. These folks are interested in protecting businesses from bad behavior. But then again that’s part of the problem. I work for a company where I am given a budget of $30,000 to do this task. I am told that this is the only job for which I am qualified because I have an undergraduate degree in Economics.
The problem is that you are dealing with people who have never had to deal with the issue of corporate malfeasance. They are not familiar with what a BBB looks like. And while they are willing to do a good job to keep the public safe, they won’t be able to do a really good job if the public isn’t paying attention. They are not people whose job it is to protect the public. They are an organization that focuses on protecting business.
A BBB is something that stands between businesses and people. A good BBB takes care of business, but keeps the public safe. A BBB is a self-enforcing regulation that is required to keep the community safe.

The government wants the BBB to protect the people it represents from criminals. The problem is that this requires a lot of police/government power. If the BBB doesn’t have the power to enforce the law, then the government is able to take that power and use it against the public at large.
